Although, there are other African American and Gullah museums this is the only one connected to a Pre-Colonial African state. Not only was there a preservation of a Royal Lineage, writing systems, and the Gullah Language but the "Talking drums" were so effective at spreading "Warfare Intelligence" Anglo-Carolinians officially banned it in 1740. The Resistance preserved drumming. It also gave birth to an African form of Psychiatry known as "The Negro Spirituals". In 1999 during the 113th Session of the South Carolina General Assembly Bill 3421 was signed into law making The Spirituals as the official music of South Carolina.
